encinal high school
For almost sixty years since the school opened in 1952, Encinal
High School has been transforming boys and girls into young
men and women armed with a curiosity about the world and the
discipline and skills necessary for achieving their passions and
The small sample of notable alums below underscores the larger
point that Encinal High School prides itself in preparing young
men and women to be leaders in their chosen professions,
avocations, and communities.

Included among the many alums whose passions were stoked by
EHS teachers and administrators are renown athletes
Dontrelle
Willis, Jimmy Rollins, and the late Wilver Stargell.

What other school can claim two alums like Rollins and
Stargell
who stirred the nation with their play and sportsmanship, and, in
so doing, led their respective teams to World Series triumph and
won baseball's coveted "Most Valuable Player" award?

Is there a school other than Encinal with alums like Willis and
Rollins whose excellence as first-year players resulted in the
Rookie of the Year award for one, with the other nearly getting
that same award several years later?

Future scholars and artists thrived under the tutelage of EHS
faculty as well, not just role-model athletes.

Rudra Sil is a professor in the Political Science Department of the
University of Pennsylvania, an "Ivy League" school.
Todd Richey
is a lecturer at UC Irvine's business school.
Nichelle Tramble has
written a number of acclaimed novels, as has
Andrew Winer.  In
addition to earning his doctorate in public health, David Boone
served in Peace Corp in Africa.

The individuals above are but a few of the thousands of EHS
alums who in their own right are leaders serving country and
community, as police officers, fire fighters, nurses, doctors,
construction workers, small business owners, administrators,
lawyers, clergy-persons, and teachers, to name a few callings.

Encinal High School through it achievement-focused educational
philosophy and pedagogy helped lay the foundation of future
success enjoyed by alums.
