The West End. West Alameda. Call it what you want,
I call it home.
It's where I feel the most at ease. If saying that
suggests I had ever felt uneasy elsewhere, well, rest
assured, such is not the case.
As it is, our city has a number of incredible
neighborhoods.
No doubt the all too human tendency is to compare,
rank, exalt, trash, glamorize, maybe even pity areas
in a discourse marked by binary opposites like
east-west, established-not established, good-bad,
and affluent-poor, to name the obvious few.
But I care little about where my neighborhood lies on
some imagined continuum that, in the end, is wholly
incapable of rendering intangibles like friendships,
sense of community, culture, and personal history.
I love the West End for what it is, and hope through
this web-site to celebrate its beauty and people. All
the best.
